Royal Caribbean Group has announced plans for an exciting new class of cruise ships known as the Discovery Class, marking a significant expansion of its vacation portfolio and long-term vision for the future of cruising. The new ships will be built at the world-renowned Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard in Saint-Nazaire, France, a longtime partner behind many of the industry’s most iconic vessels.

A New Generation of Cruise Experiences

The Discovery Class represents a fresh concept within Royal Caribbean Group’s fleet, designed to deliver immersive experiences, innovative ship design, and enhanced guest comfort. While specific onboard features and layouts have not yet been revealed, the new class is expected to reflect Royal Caribbean Group’s continued focus on pushing boundaries and redefining how guests explore the world by sea.

This announcement signals a strategic evolution alongside the company’s existing Icon, Oasis, and Edge Series ships, offering even more variety in vacation styles for travelers.

Built by an Industry Leader

Royal Caribbean Group’s partnership with Chantiers de l’Atlantique spans decades, dating back to the construction of the original Sovereign Class ships. The French shipyard has since delivered many of the cruise industry’s most groundbreaking vessels, including Oasis Class ships and Celebrity Cruises’ Edge Series.

By selecting Chantiers de l’Atlantique for the Discovery Class, Royal Caribbean Group is building on a proven legacy of innovation, advanced engineering, and modern ship design.

Timeline and Fleet Expansion

Royal Caribbean Group has placed firm orders for two Discovery Class ships, with options for up to four additional vessels. The first ship is currently scheduled to debut in 2029, with a second planned for 2032.

Once launched, the Discovery Class ships will further expand Royal Caribbean Group’s diverse fleet, which continues to grow across multiple brands and vacation experiences, including ocean cruises, private destinations, and river cruising.

What This Means for Travelers

Although full details are still to come, the introduction of the Discovery Class highlights Royal Caribbean Group’s commitment to offering innovative, forward-thinking vacations designed for a wide range of travelers. As more information becomes available, guests can expect new opportunities to experience the brand’s signature blend of entertainment, design, and destination-focused travel.

Travelers interested in future Royal Caribbean sailings should keep an eye on upcoming announcements as the Discovery Class begins to take shape.
